The TAB Everest Day is a glamorous new addition to the Spring Racing Calendar, returning this year for just the third time, on October 19th. Held at Royal Randwick in Sydney, the TAB Everest is the world’s richest turf race. It features twelve top sprinters over a 1200-metre course with a total prize pool of over $14 million.
High-stakes racing and high-end fashion go hand-in-hand, and the TAB Everest Day is no exception. It’s the perfect opportunity to dress up and mingle at one of Sydney’s most fashionable events. Ladies and gentlemen can enter the Harrolds Fashion Chute competition, which awards competitors who express individual style through current trends while incorporating spring racing dress codes.
Head into the blue
The fashion theme for the TAB Everest Day is Into The Blue, which the official fashion guide describes as “airy, playful and carefree, featuring feathery ruffles, luxurious silhouettes and silky textures”. Think frills, florals, floaty silks and chiffons, and delicate lace.
Your TAB Everest Day dress code
Like all of Australian’s top racecourses, there is a dress code for Royal Randwick. The following items are not permitted in the member’s area:
- Any form of joggers, sports shoes, track shoes, runners, thongs, dilapidated footwear, scuffs, gumboots or slippers
- Jeans or denim items, jodhpurs, shorts, untailored pants or playsuits
- Torn or ripped clothing
- Midriff-revealing garments or those with cut-outs
- Leggings worn as pants
- Parkas, duffle coats, windbreakers, tracksuit tops, denim jackets or anoraks
In other areas of the racecourse, attendees are expected to dress to a high standard.

Complete your look with the perfect headwear
You’re expected to wear a hat or fascinator to TAB Everest Day. How do you pick the perfect headpiece? Check out our blog for ideas! Top tip: don’t try to colour-match your headwear to your Everest Day dress. Unless you find a hat or fascinator in the exact same shade of blue, it won’t look right. Instead, pick out an accent colour from your dress, or go for a trendy metallic. Here are some options to spark your imagination.
A metallic floral fascinator
Olga Berg - Jess Floral Headband
This feminine floral headband in silver will look wonderful with Everest Day’s cool blue tones.

A white lace crown
Heather McDowall - Meghan Crown
Create extra height and with a beautiful lace crown in crisp white. Pair with white and gold accessories.
Top tips for choosing your accessories
Accessories: You’re likely to be walking on a variety of surfaces at Royal Randwick, so avoid stilettos. The TAB Everest Day dress code prefers an open-toed sandal, so select one that has a solid heel that won’t sink into the grass. It’s a bad look to end the day barefoot with your shoes in hand, so be sure to wear them a little beforehand, and include some shoe gels in your clutch in case blisters threaten to ruin your day.
Bags/Clutches: There are plenty of things you’ll need to have with you on race day, including your ticket, credit card, phone, sunscreen, touch-up makeup, mints, deodorant, a mirror, and toothpicks for a parsley-free smile! Your clutch should not just coordinate with your dress, headwear and shoes, but also have enough room to fit all the essentials for your day at the races.
