Spring clean-outs are not just for your clothes! As we move from dreary Winter days and into the sunny and pleasant Spring season, our wardrobes naturally go through a bit of a transition. The heavy coats and dark knits move toward the back and we begin reaching for lighter fabrics and colours to mimic the world around us. The same goes for our makeup! Have you noticed you tend to neglect the heavy, darker, smokier tones in favour for more bronze, pinks and neutrals once the weather starts warming up? When we think of Spring we tend to think of dewy skin, petal cheeks and pink frosted lips to complement the lighter, more effortless style of Springtime dressing. Deep reds and burgundy lips move way to a more natural pout, and eyes are softer with focus on fluttering lashes as opposed to heavy-rimmed eyes.To make the most of this season’s Spring makeup looks, we have rounded up the top trends of 2016 and offer you some tips to incorporate them into your Spring wardrobe:
Top 5 Spring Makeup Looks of 2016
1. Glossy, dewy skin
Spring is the season to leave your heavy matte foundations and powders behind and opt for a more natural, luminous complexion. Highlighters have made their mark on the fashion and beauty scene over the past Autumn/Winter season, but the iridescent shimmery look is far too much for the sunnier days. Instead, opt for a liquid based foundation and mix a little shimmer powder or lotion in for a soft and glowy complexion. BB creams such as the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector is all you need for a good base; and is suitable for all skin types. Tinted moisturisers are also a fantastic way to get that glowy highlight on the cheekbone without it looking like it’s been placed there intentionally. Complement the look with a cream blush in a rose or petal pink shade and dab into the apple of your cheeks. This look is perfect for a casual chic outfit or laid-back tee paired with some skinny jeans.

2. Orange Eyeshadow
The orange eye trend has made a bit of a come-back thanks to a certain Kardashian-Jenner! The Kyshadow kit from Kyliecosmetics.com features this gorgeous citrus orange colour which looks fabulous in the crease and on the lower lashline. This trend is perfect for olive skin tones, but also makes fair skin pop; especially those with blue eyes. Start off sparse as to avoid looking too OTT, blending into the crease. For a more subtle look, stick to just the lower lashline, but going slightly lower to achieve a sultry ‘smoked out’ kind of effect.3. Rose tint
Springtime is all about flushed, sun-tickled skin! You can emulate this look (without the risk of sun damage!) by investing in an all-rounder lip, cheek & eye tint. Simply dab on using your finger and apply to the fleshy part of your cheeks, over your lips and a slight wash over the lids of your eyes for a romantic and feminine ‘Raphaelite’ look. Tinted skin works perfectly with the dewy look, and gives an overall healthy glow. Three of our favourite tints include 1. Benefit’s Benetint Cheek & Lip Stain, 2. 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Lip & Cheek Tint in ‘Pink Grapefruit Glow’ and 3. TonyMoly Tony Tint Delight in ‘Cherry Pink’. Complement this gorgeous glowing, ‘just been kissed’ look with soft flowing tops or a flirty playsuit such as this Alice McCall Lucy In The Sky Playsuit.4. Flamenco Lips
The red lipstick of this Spring makeup trend is more of a pink/red colour, but not with the overtly pinkness of a fuschia lip. Moreover, this season’s lip trend can be modeled off the Spanish-inspired Flamenco culture as seen on Vogue cover-girl Kendall Jenner at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015 runway. The pinker tone is far less heavy and bold than a classic blue or orange-based red lipstick and can be applied with the fingers for a more soft, tinted look during the day. Keep the rest of the face natural, as a statement lip like this is enough on it’s own. Wear this with the Fiesta Dress by Thurley for a show-stopping look! For the perfect flamenco-inspired lip, shop the Nars Mexican Rose Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil.

5. Icy Lids
This Spring, the ice maiden look is in! (well, at least for your eyelids that is!) We’re talking gun-metal grays, shimmery silvers and iridescent pearls swiped over the entire eyelid including the inner corners and all the way up to the brow bone. This is a very soft and classy look, and matches well with thick lashes or a statement lip. The shimmer highlights acts as a halo of light around the eye, giving the illusion of more open, wide-awake eyes. Try lining the bottom lashline with a white pencil liner for that bright-eyed look. This look would work well with soft, blush or pink and neutral clothes such as this Camilla and Marc Golden MynaDress.Love these makeup looks?
