Tell us about the special occasion you had and why you wanted to wear a designer dress for it?
My occasion was a beauty industry awards evening that I had organised (with a colleague) through work for around 275 Dermal Therapists.The theme was Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and it was held in the ballroom at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo Function Centre. For me this is one of the big events in my annual social calendar and I wanted to wear something really fun – but not fancy dress. This is always one event where everyone goes all out, as it’s a celebration of a year’s hard work. I wanted to wear something unique, yet short person friendly (I’m 5”1”).
We’d made the interior of the ballroom look like a forest with tree’s made out of branches and foliage mixed with twinkle lights coupled with moss and tiny flowers placed at the base of every table. It looked like we were all having tea in the woods – that in conjunction with everyone dressed on theme made it look spectacular.
What was it about this occasion that made renting a dress so appealing for you?
Normally, I would just go and buy a dress – but I have this bad habit of buying dresses for these sorts of events and firstly, I then never wearing them again! Secondly, I never resell them and while it’s great news for my best friend who always raids my cupboard whenever she is in Sydney – it works out really expensive for me, and as I live in the inner West, an overall storage nightmare.

Tell us about the dress and the designer label you chose, and why you chose it?
I loved the dress instantly, as it was a statement piece without being over-the-top. Or too revealing – it was a work do after all. I knew that I wanted to have my hair woven into a hat up style. So when looking for a dress, I wanted something that would complement my hair as opposed to clash with it, and yet still be on theme. It was a harder ask then I had initially thought haha…but in the end I think that this one hit the mark.
I have always enjoyed Self Portrait, find that their dresses are usual true to size, and have good fabric quality. When the dress arrived, it looked brand new. I had it delivered to my work and all of us there examined the dress and agreed that it looked brand new – I knew that it wasn’t though as it had been reviewed a few times already on the website.

Have you rented a dress before or was this your first time?
This was my first time renting a dress!
I knew that dress rental services were around, and was originally looking for a hiring service for my bridesmaid’s dress. Then realised that my sister was shorter than I was so a hire option in this instance was perhaps not the best idea – especially when you are looking at floor length gowns. Then just kept GC in mind for the next event I had coming up, as they had the best selection of good dresses, which ended up being the one at Taronga Zoo.
How was your overall experience with GC (online and offline) and would you recommend us to other women?
My experience was perfect, ordering was simple, my dress turned up not only on time but beautifully presented. I work with a lot of women, and whenever something gets delivered it’s natural for us all to want to see what new clothes that you’ve brought.

I did not have to recommend GlamCorner to anyone because I think when that box turned and everyone saw how beautiful the dress (and back up dress) was – everyone was converted. Pretty sure if you checked everyones’ browser history that day, they were all checking out the GC dresses.
I have used GC again since then, for a black tie event (through my partner’s work) and the customer service in that experience was more than exceptional; I have to give a massive shout out to Bronte customer service. She literally saved that event for me!
