The Caulfield Day, being held on October 19th, is one of Australia’s richest thoroughbred races and the pinnacle of the annual Melbourne Racing Club Spring Carnival. Steeped in tradition, the race is celebrating its 142nd year.
Caulfield Cup 2019 is a must-attend for stylish racegoers, as the racecourse will be transformed into a New York-themed extravaganza of fashion, food and entertainment. It promises to be a trackside experience like no other!
Separate precincts will celebrate midtown’s bustle, downtown Soho’s architecture, Instagrammable Uptown and the cool vibe of Brooklyn. Dining will feature everything from New York inspired street food through to five-star silver service. For fashion spotters, a twice-daily runway show will allow you to get up close and personal with the latest styles, models and celebrities.
Caulfield Day is always a fashion celebration. There is no official Caulfield Day dress code, but in recent years the trend has favoured bold colours and strong, statement pieces. Without being bound to Derby Day’s monochrome restriction or Oaks Day’s feminine vibe; Caulfield Cup Day is an event to let your fashion imagination run wild and the perfect opportunity to experiment with stand-out looks.
Caulfield Day Cup Fashion Dress Code
Don’t forget that, like all the major spring racing events, when you attend Caulfield Racecourse you are expected to dress to a high standard in keeping with the exclusive nature of the event. Therefore, the following items of clothing should be avoided:
- pullovers and cardigans
- denim or zippered waist-length casual jackets
- anything that reveals a bare midriff
- jeans
- denim shorts, board shorts, cargo shorts, running shorts or long shorts
- any torn or dilapidated items of clothing
- running, sports or casual shoes
- thongs
- any form of dilapidated footwear.
Caulfield Day Headwear
Headwear, such as a fascinator, headband, hat or crown, is expected to be worn. You’ll also want to pull your race day look together with statement jewellery or a clutch that’s big enough to hold all your race day essentials. Pro tip: Make sure your heel is wide enough not to sink into the earth if you happen to find yourself in a non-paved area! Need a headpiece for an upcoming race day? Rent headwear here.
