It’s already Autumn! We all love Summer in Australia – hot beach escapes, stocking up on cute bikinis, bbq’s and drinks out in the courtyard and the best part – walking home when it’s still light out! As much as I love Summer, the recent heatwaves this year have made me long for that fresh cold weather, where we can reach for those ankle boots and comfy sweater, cuddle up in front of the fire and do some much-needed online shopping.
There are so many events even in Autumn, like birthday parties, galas, luncheons, and you have the EOFY ball to look forward to in Winter, so it’s the perfect time now to sit down and prepare your Autumn wardrobe. To help you out, we have rounded up our top 7 Autumn trends from the runway straight to your wardrobe (or Pinterest board!). Start your wish list early and don’t get caught out in the cold!
No.1 OFF THE SHOULDER
We can’t possibly ignore the fact that the off-the-shoulder dress is the number one trend of the moment. It’s seen all over the runways, on our fave celebrities Gigi, Bella & Kendall, and on the streets. Our favourite and no. 1 of our countdown of this year’s Autumn Trends is the off-the-shoulder dress. If there’s any chance of showing off our bare shoulders we’ll take it! The great thing about off-the-shoulder dresses, is that they can be playful and cute or quite conversely glamorous and sexy. You could choose a playful off-the shoulder playsuit for a casual lunch date or for an evening event, go for a marvellous full-length gown.
We at GlamCorner are obsessed and have a fresh new batch of dresses from a range of designers that delightfully hang off the shoulder in our new arrivals collection. This is definitely a trend that will continue and thrive in Winter, so if your shoulders get a bit chilly, make sure you layer up! (check out our next trend that we love!)
No.2 LAYERING DRESSES
Practically speaking, we do have to keep warm in the colder months, but how great is it when it looks cool and is right on trend! We’ve seen all of the designers 2017 Pre-Fall collections and they sure have been layering it up. What better way for them to present all their amazing designs in one go, and what better way for you to show off all your favourite fashion finds in one outfit! Layering an off-the-shoulder dress over a singlet appears to be all the rage on the runways, as well as wearing t-shirts or tops under sleeveless dresses. The number one rule is to have fun, mixing and matching different items already in your wardrobe with some new finds or rentals.

You can go for a casual vibe perfect for a girl’s brunch by mixing a white t-shirt with a floral dress like Talulah The Faithful Maxi Dress or go glam for date night by mixing up an ornamental bustier like the Misha Collection Agata Bustier with an off-the-shoulder dress like the Talulah Without You Midi Dress.
No.3 METALLICS
Moving into the colder, darker months we want to brighten up our mood, but not to fear – designers from New York to Paris have taken note and we have seen metallics come in full swing all over the runway. Make a bold statement and shine with some glitz and glam with a head-to-toe metallic fabric dress like the ABS by Allen Schwartz Ombre Sequin Gown, or if you want to be a bit more subtle, choose a dress with some metallic embellishments or highlights like the Talulah Faith Mini Dress.
No. 4 FLORAL
Don’t we girls all love a bit of romance? I don’t know about you but there’s something so appealing about florals, it’s just oh-so-girly! With Valentines just gone by, if we ain’t receiving any flowers for a while, we might as well be wearing them this Autumn! The great thing about florals, the prettiest of all the Autumn trends, is that it’s so versatile. Make a statement in a large, bold print like the Thurley Snap Dragon Print Dress or with vibrant floral embroidery like the gorgeous For Love and Lemons Amelia Swing Dress. For a subtle look, try intricate floral lace like the Grace & Hart Serene Fitted Midi or girly and sweet like the Zimmermann Tropicale Lattice Dress. Make some plans for date night or a sweet brunch date to embrace the girly floral look that we love!
No.5 ASYMMETRICAL
Along with the off-the-shoulder trend that has been seen everywhere, from the catwalk to the red carpet, designers have been playing with this style by adding shoulder cut-outs and asymmetrical necklines. Experimenting with geometry and symmetry by manipulating forms, designers break away from rigid conventional designs. Asymmetry in outfits are bohemian yet sophisticated and the outcome is bold, modern, free, classy and timeless. The trend is what you make of it. It can be flirty and feminine like the Alice McCall Love Light Dress or edgy and minimal like the Division Dress by Maticevski, and this Autumn trend can be worked for any body silhouette.

No.6 SHEER FABRICS
Do you dare to bare? Designers and celebrities alike are making bold statements in the tabloids and on the runway with stunning sheer dresses that show a daring amount of skin. It’s becoming quite a trend on the red carpets with stars like Beyonce, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner looking rather ravishing in sexy sheer looks. So how do we pull these looks off ourselves? Opt for sheer layers, throw in a hint of lace, or put on some beautiful fabrics like chiffon or organza over a slip. Also, choose what you want to show by opting for dresses with sheer fabrics over cutouts, or layered over opaque fabric. To vamp it up a bit, maybe go for embroidered tulle, or ruffled lace, peek-a-boo cut-outs or if you’re game a bodysuit under a fully sheer dress. To go all out and show some skin choose a dress like the Those were the Days Dress by Alice McCall, or go for a more subtle look with the ABS by Allen Schwartz Olivia Cocktail Dress.
No.7 THE MIDI DRESS
When it gets to Autumn, maybe the idea of wearing a short skirt outside brings shivers down your spine, but you’re sick of wearing that same pair of jeans under boots. Dilemma! Not to worry, designers around the globe have come to your rescue by introducing the midi-length skirt trend on all the Autumn runways – hooray! There are just so many benefits of a midi, one is you don’t have to shave all of your legs, two – they hide knobbly knees and most importantly, they keep you warm and look great! Style them with a pair of chunky heels or sharp ankle boots for an elegant evening look. Our top picks for this Autumn trend are the Thurley Sonnet Strapless Dress and the elegant Blind Love Midi Dress by Talulah.
